The esotericism is a teaching which makes
it possible to the man to be initiated with hidden
fields, illustrated by symbols. It is
characterized above all by an initiatory
knowledge, but often also by spiritual techniques
intended for a transformation of oneself (meditation, concentration, jeûne…), fastening at a school of thought within which the initiate can progress and with
individual or collective ritual practices. When the practical
aspect becomes prevalent in the esotericism, one speaks rather about magic. In addition, certain sectarian movements are
pressed on texts with esoteric content .
With L’origin, the esotericism indicates a teaching professed either inside a "school of the mysteries", or in a particular relation with a spiritual Master.
It is in fact reserved respectively to the members initiated within the school or by the Master. Commonly, the term of esotericism indicates a knowledge reserved for some and is included/understood primarily compared to its opposite, the exoterism, which corresponds as for him to the beliefs, rites and lesson conveyed by the religions and traditions and which are addressed indifferently to all the members of a community. The esotericism is not to confuse with the paranormal and the occultism.
Authors of XIXe and XXe centuries (Eliphas Lévi, Papus, Riffard) tried to rationalize the difference between the two branches étymologiquement so close.
And for a few decades, the disaffection for a certain form of dogma and L' exoterism has given again strength at the various schools and drifts, white magic, black magic, sects of all kinds which propose their own interpretations of the universe, of the organization of this one, seeking the hidden direction that cannot explain science or playing on the marvellous one, fascination for the mystery, alchemy, the potions, the knowledge old, occult, the enchantments, the omens, magic spells, all things which fascinate by the capacities real or supposed that would give some practical.
Tracks to be explored, certainly, but always with prudence and detachment, without yielding to the phenomena mode, good introspection.
